The collegiate Farnsworth Lectureship in Pharmacognosy is hosted in memory of Norman R. Farnsworth, who was one of the College's most dedicated pharmacy educators and internationally renowned, transformational pharmacognosy researchers. His scientific and educational contributions relate to the chemistry, biology, and therapeutic properties of medicinal plants and natural products. The Farnsworth Lecture is hosted annually by the UIC Pharmacognosy Institute on behalf of the UIC College of Pharmacy (see History of Farnsworth Lectures since 2013).

The 11th Farnsworth Lecture will be held on August 22, 2024 (12:30 CT/13:30 ET/11:30MT/10:30 PT; 19:30 CET; UTC-6h; see world time zone map here), by Dr. Jean-Luc Wolfender from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. The lecture title will be announced in due course.

Jean-Luc Wolfender | Professor | University of Geneva (Switzerland)

Dr. Wolfdender is a Full Professor at the Phytochemistry and  Bioactive Natural Product research unit of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Geneva (Switzerland).  He is currently developing innovative MS‐ and NMR‐ based metabolomics strategies in the frame of projects related to phytochemistry, microbial interactions, and phytotherapy. His resarch drives the development of dereplication and de novo structure identification methods of bioactive natural products in the context of pharmaceutical and human health applications.
